In planning this experience, i wrote to a bunch of people to find ideas, inspiration and support. One of them was John Foden. John  was among the three men who proved back in 1982 that the historical run from Athens to Sparta, done by Pheidippides some 2,400 years earlier, would actually be possible to do. That it was no myth.John was the first to answer my call. He won’t be there to drive the van. He won’t be there running with me. But John had the nicest words and was kind enough to agree when i asked him to write a foreword for the book that will be written about “the longest day”. I can’t thank John enough for this.

As i said, he’ll not be driving the van or be running along. But he’ll be there. All the way.

Bei der Planung dieses Laufes habe ich einer Menge von Leuten geschrieben und um Ideen, Inspiration und Unterstützung gebeten. Einer von ihnen war John Foden. John war einer von drei Männern die 1982 bewiesen haben, dass der historische Lauf von Athen nach Sparta, den Pheidippides ungefähr 2400 Jahre vorher hinter sich gebracht haben soll, wirklich machbar ist. Dass er keine Sage war.

John war der erste, der geantwortet hat. Er wird nicht da sein und den Wagen fahren. Er wird nicht mit mir laufen. Aber John war sehr freundlich und hat sich sofort bereit erklärt das Vorwort zu dem Buch zu schreiben, dass es über “Der längste Tag” geben wird. Ich kann ihm nicht genug dafür danken.

Wie gesagt, er wird nicht den Wagen fahren oder mitlaufen. Aber er wird da sein. Die ganze Zeit.
